Mark Cockram lecture has been cancelled. Stay tuned for new date!

DATE:   Thursday,  November 16th,  2017  6-9pm

WHERE:  Judith Ivry Bookbinding  @ 25 East 4th Street  NYC  NY 10003

Mr. Cockram received The Society of Bookbinders' Maureen Duke Educational Award allowing him to research bookbinding, restoration and conservation in tropical and subtropical climates at the conservation laboratory of the Ortigas Foundation Library, Manila, the Philippines in March 2016. In this talk Mr. Cockram will give a detailed account of his experience and learned outcomes.

"Our climate is changing more and more quickly. Book people have to anticipate the impact on our practice. The irony is that many students from Asia and other parts of the world come to the UK and USA to study. Much of what we teach as standard practice may be of little or no use to them when they return to their own countries to contend with circumstances specific to more extreme climates and a scarcity of resources. It is we who should go to those countries to learn. It could be that, even in my lifetime, the skills and knowledge of bookbinders, restorers and conservators in these countries today are the skills and knowledge practitioners in the USA and UK will need tomorrow." - Mark Cockramhttp://www.markcockrambooks.co.uk
